America was indebted to immigration for her settlement and prosperity. That part of America which had encouraged them most had advanced most rapidly in population, agriculture and the arts.

I came to US in 2003. I have struggled, worked my way up in the company, played by the rules and have given my best to assimilate in this country. Out of many countries I could immigrate to, I chose US for many reasons. But the top reason was its warmth towards immigrants and its genuine promise that if you work hard, there are opportunities and then no limits.

Its almost mid 2007. My first level of Green Card has not yet completed. I see a future but its glow its getting meeker. So do I still think the warmth is there? Fortunately I do.
And I attribute that to a hope that the policy makers will realize that the fabric of this country a great mix of immigrants from all parts of the globe. This country would be a lot different if you were to take out the history of immigrants. Need I say more?

I have a dream of giving my family a better standard of living, a better life that I could give them in a third world country. So I worked really hard and secured an opportunity to work in this country. That is my dream and my hope. But it is not an internal hope. Nor am I getting any younger. So I must take a decision. If I am not welcome as a immigrant here, even when I play by the rules, then I must seek other greener pastures. I have already filed paperwork for another and I am told I will get my permanent residency in 2 years, because I am immigrant who can “contribute”.

Now if this is true for me, and I am simple man, it is true for many others. Without mend, at the end, I only see America loosing out what it gained in last 100 years.
